Goals and Objectives

Goals
  • Trainees will demonstrate competence in the set-up and basic functions of a manual defibrillator

  • Trainees will demonstrate competence in operating the defibrillator independently

Objectives

When using the manual defibrillator, trainees will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Power the device on and off

  • Connect devices

    • Cardiac monitor

    • Blood pressure monitor

      • Cuff

      • Arterial Line

    • Pulse oximeter

    • EtCO2 monitor

    • Pads

    • CPR feedback puck

  • Change modes

    • Monitor

    • Pace

    • AED

    • Defibrillate / Cardiovert

  • Toggle sync function

  • Manipulate charge

    • Generate

    • Dispel

    • Deliver (synchronized)

    • Deliver (asynchronous)

 

Trainees will also be able to:

  • Define and differentiate defibrillation, cardioversion, and pacing

  • Describe and demonstrate proper pad placements
